Updated 6/14/2022

Houston Parks and Recreation Department and Houston Parks Board have teamed up with University Village Civic Club and community members to improve University Village Park.

University Village Civic Club submitted a request to Houston Parks Board on June 24, 2021, through the Neighborhood Partnership Program to revitalize this park, located in the Third Ward and within the Third Ward Complete Community boundaries.

The small, pocket park was established in 2021 on .11 acres (5,000 square feet) of land. Current park amenities include two picnic tables, park signage, trees, landscaping, community garden and trash receptacle.

Planning efforts are underway to determine the scope and budget for the renovation project.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

No community meetings are scheduled at this time. Stay tuned for updates.

PREVIOUS COMMUNITY MEETINGS

On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, Houston Parks Board hosted a virtual community meeting for community members to give input on two design options for this park.

The first design option focused the park around a mini half-court basketball court and the second design option focused around play areas and a trail.

DESIGN UPDATE

Following the May 11 community meeting, Houston Parks Board met with Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the Mayor’s Office of Complete Communities to analyze and discuss the input.

All input was carefully weighed, and it was decided that option 2 (play experience with rope swing, walking trail, hopscotch court, foursquare court, picnic table, etc.) is more suitable for this small pocket park footprint and will be the design option moving forward.

Site improvements such as sidewalk improvements, fencing, and lighting will remain part of the design package. Click here to view this option (design subject to change).

Further design work will start based on this conceptual design. We expect construction to begin in fall 2022.
