Greens Bayou Greenway from I-45 to Greens Parkway

On March 28, 2019, Houston Parks Board – along with Harris County Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Vice Mayor Pro-Tem Jerry Davis, Houston Parks and Recreation Department Director Steve Wright, and others – celebrated the ribbon cutting of Greens Bayou Greenway. The new greenway features a 2-mile paved concrete trail, botanical themed design elements, two new pedestrian bridges, landscaping, and more.

In June 2019, construction was completed on a Greens Bayou Greenway project to connect Strickland Park to Maxey Park. In addition to the 10-foot-wide concrete hike-and-bike trail, notable new features are improvements to Maxey Park and Strickland Park, a connection into the nearby METRO Park and Ride and a mid-block crossing on Woodforest Boulevard.

Improvements to Strickland Park include seven parking spaces, signage, a kayak launch and seating area, as well as a unique bobcat-themed gateway at the trail entrance to the park.

Improvements to Maxey Park include a seating area, signage, additional trees and a unique eagle-themed gateway at the trail entrance to the park from the parking lot.

The project started in June 2018 and was completed in May 2019.

Greens Bayou Greenway from Brock Park to Valley Forest Drive

On Dec. 20, 2019, Houston Parks Board – along with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Senator Carol Alvarado, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Harris County Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Houston Parks and Recreation Department Director Steve Wright, and others – celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new 2.3-mile segment of Greens Bayou Greenway.

The new greenway includes an 8-foot wide concrete trail that connects to the existing Halls Bayou Greenway Gateway on the southern side of Brock Park, crosses Halls Bayou within Brock Park with a new 14-ft wide hike-and-bike bridge, and continues north along Greens Bayou to Valley Forest Drive. From Valley Forest Drive, a compacted-earth nature trail will take trail users north to the city limits

A notable feature of this new greenway includes a new kayak launch on the east side of Greens Bayou, near the old Brock Park Golf Course Club House, which will connect paddlers down to a kayak launch at Strickland Park and then further down (close to I-10) to a kayak launch at Thomas Bell Foster Park.
