Houston Parks Board 2018 Milestones

It was a monumental 2018 for Houston Parks Board. With groundbreakings, ribbon cutting ceremonies, new partnerships and exciting community events, we have had much to celebrate as we grow closer to completing Bayou Greenways 2020. As we look forward to what’s to come, we invite you to look back with us on some of our favorite moments of last year.


Bridging Communities in Houston's East End

If you visit Mason Park or jog along Brays Bayou Greenway, you will likely see a new addition to landscape: the Mason Park Pedestrian/Bike Bridge.


Houston City Council Approves FY2019 Bayou Greenways 2020 Allocation

On August 14, 2018, Houston City Council approved the allocation of $18,600,000 from the 2012 bond referendum for construction of Bayou Greenways 2020 projects.


What About Lighting on the Bayou Greenways? It’s Complicated.

Flooded, Rescued, Resilient: Stories of Strength and Heroism Told by the Houstonians Who Lived Them

Join the Park-Smart Precinct One Community for an evening to celebrate the strength and courage of this community in the face of Hurricane Harvey. Local storytellers will share their stories of survival and heroism, and Precinct One will dedicate a labyrinth commemorating the resilience, compassion and unification of the Houston community at-large.


Jamail Skatepark Turns 10!

Some 1,000 skaters and community members gathered in June to celebrate the 10th anniversary celebration of the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark.

The Bayou Greenways offer a great opportunity to witness bat colonies emerging at dusk. Known bat colonies live on White Oak Bayou, Sims Bayou and Halls Bayou.


8/31/17 Post-Flood Cleanup: Caution when Using Bayou Greenway Trails

Our thoughts are with all of those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. We are thankful to see flood waters and bayou levels beginning to recede. At this time, we strongly urge caution in use of the Bayou Greenways trails.

8/23/17 Houston City Council Approves FY2018 Bayou Greenways 2020 Allocation

Houston City Council unanimously approved $12,457,000 as this fiscal year’s allocation of the $100 million 2012 bond referendum for construction of Bayou Greenways 2020 projects.
