Improvements Underway at Freed Art and Nature Park!
Dedicated as a gift to Houston’s park system by the Frank and Eleanor Freed Foundation in 2003, Freed Art and Nature Park (Freed A&N Park) is a beautiful property located inside Loop 610 in the Woodland Heights neighborhood. With one of the highest elevations in the city inside its boundaries, the park boasts views of the surrounding areas through a forest setting.
Thanks to the work of the Student Conservation Association (SCA) in the summer of 2010, trail construction is well underway. Trail work includes areas of boardwalk and stairs to help visitors navigate the somtimes soggy and hilly terrain.
This project is vital and valuable because of its premier location and ability to link green spaces. The existing trails along White Oak Bayou in Stude Park and White Oak Park are already heavily used. Freed A&N Park trails will provide additional trail interest and park connectivity, and provide a significant step to future trail connectivity to Woodland Park to the north and beyond. In fact, the Houston Parks Board purchased a 0.29-acre property north of Freed A&N Park in anticipation of a future trail connection to Woodland Park.
Many thanks to the Carruth Foundation who kicked-off our fundraising efforts with a generous $50,000 grant for park development.
