Sims Greenway

Robert C. Stuart Park

The Houston Parks Board completed the acquisition of 27.2 acres of property along scenic Sims Bayou in south-central Houston to be preserved as a permanent public park, protecting precious green space for the City of Houston and providing linear greenbelt linkage. Covered with vegetation representative of the forest that once lined the banks of the Bayou, the newly acquired property will be one in a series of seven parks along Sims Bayou that will eventually be connected by a 14-mile hike and bike trail.

The Robert C. Stuart Park project was made possible by generous donations from Houston Endowment Inc., Brown Foundation, Wortham Foundation, a Federal CIAP grant, and Mrs. Francita Stuart Ulmer, daughter and only child of Robert Cummins Stuart and his wife, Frances Wells Stuart. The Houston Parks Board worked closely with the Estate of Robert C. Stuart for several years to make this acquisition possible.  Mrs. Ulmer generously donated approximately half of the value of the property to name the park in honor of her father.
