Houston Parks Board's 40th Birthday
October 26, 2016, is Houston Parks Board Day
in the City of Houston as Proclaimed by Mayor Sylvester Turner
We're kicking off a year-long celebration of our 40th Birthday! To honor our 40 years of service, Mayor Sylvester Turner has proclaimed October 26, 2016, as Houston Parks Board Day in the City of Houston.
40 Years of Creating, Improving, Protecting and Advocating for Parkland
Since our inception in 1976, Houston Parks Board has added more than 14,000 acres of new parkland and greenspace to Houston’s park system and completed more than $115 million in capital improvements to new and existing parks and greenspace. In looking at Houston's future, we've taken on one of the most ambitious park projects in our city's history: Bayou Greenways 2020.
The past 40 years would not have been possible without the generosity of our supporters, partners and friends, and our commitment to improving neighborhood parks, protecting parkland and transforming Houston's bayous will continue for years to come.
